Towntalk is on a mission to bridge the "information gap" problem in high-risk countries; using inclusive digital technologies and predictive analytics.
In May 2018, my boss walked into my office, handed me a CV, and said in his usual cheeky tone “it’s better than yours”. I knew how much my boss rated me and I wanted to know who this guy was who thought he could stroll into my territory and be “better than me”. I decided to go over to have a chat with him because “kill them with kindness”, but I found myself in an hour long debate and banter session.
Tomiwa and I ended up working together for 6 weeks conducting research on the impact of the upcoming elections on business operations and we immediately spotted how huge a challenge - the lack of access to data and spread of fake information in Nigeria was. Where we saw a challenge we also spotted an opportunity and knew that with our joint capabilities, the possibilities were endless.
The initial excitement quickly wore off when we realised we were incomplete. We needed a clear mind, a third eye, a sounding board and a reality check every now and then. As life would have it, in our moment of need, Folake "accidentally" sent her CV to our entire office instead of the HR department (one of those timely mistakes). We got this email in the middle of the day and we knew this was our God-sent CEO.
Fast forward 3 months, we founded Towntalk to bridge the data gap on the African continent.
